The Sentinel

  • 1 - Forerunner

    Grade: 4a | First Ascent: (Pre-1965)

    The wrinkled face is climbed rightwards to finish up the arête.

  • 2 - The Peeler

    Grade: 4a | First Ascent: (Pre-1965)
    Rating: 0

    At the left-hand end of The Sentinel is a steep crack which is climbed past a small overhang.

  • 3 - Overlapping Wall

    Grade: 6a | First Ascent: -1966
    Rating: 1

    A very difficult and necky problem. Start three metres to the right of The Peeler at an obvious handhold and climb directly, passing the overlap with great difficulty.

  • 4 - No Traverse

    Grade: 4b | First Ascent: (Pre-1965)

    Climb the short, stepped arête and finish up a crack.

  • 5 - Tony`s Traverse

    Grade: 4b | First Ascent: (Pre-1965)
    Rating: 1

    Climb No Traverse until a semi-hand-traverse along the obvious break leads rightwards for six metres. Move up and across to a comfortable stance (The Throne). Continue traversing around the arête and finish up a short wall.

  • 6 - No Exit

    Grade: 4c | First Ascent: (1986-87)
    Rating: 1

    One metre to the right is a short finger-crack. Climb directly up the crack and steep wall above on surprisingly good holds.

  • 7 - Traverse Not

    Grade: 4c | First Ascent: (Pre-1965)
    Rating: 1

    Start to the right at an undercut, faint groove. Climb the fingertip layback and short crack to reach The Bed. Finish direct or slightly rightwards.

  • 8 - Bed End

    Grade: | First Ascent: (Pre-1965)
    Rating: 1

    Start at the right-hand side of The Sentinel. Climb leftwards via a Z-shaped crack to reach The Throne, moving up and slightly leftwards to finish.

  • 9 - Sentinel Wall

    Climb directly up the left-hand edge of the easy chimney on the right side of The Sentinel.
